Besnik Mustafaj has worked as a professor, translator and journalist. He is among the founders of the Albanian Democratic Party; with Azem Hajdari he organised the first democracy demonstration against the Communist regime of Enver Hoxha. Ambassador of France from 1992 to 1997, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2005 to 2007, to then resign because of disagreements with Premier Berihsa and then dedicate himself entirely to writing. One of the most important contemporary Albanian writer, Mustafaj is the author of numerous novels, non-fiction books, collections and translations. In Italy he published, Albania: tra crimini e miraggi (Garzanti, 1993). In 1997 he won the “Méditerranée” prize for the novel Daullja prej letre (Paper drum).

Besnik Mustafaj ha lavorato come professore, traduttore e giornalista. È tra i fondatori del Partito Democratico d’Albania; con Azem Hajdari organizzò la prima manifestazione democratica contro il regime comunista di Enver Hoxha. Ambasciatore in Francia dal 1992 al 1997, è stato Ministro degli Esteri dal 2005 al 2007, per poi dimettersi causa dissenso con il premier Berisha e dedicarsi definitivamente alla scrittura. Tra i più importanti scrittori contemporanei albanesi, Mustafaj è autore di numerosi romanzi, saggi, raccolte e traduzioni. In Italia ha pubblicato Albania: tra crimini e miraggi (Garzanti, 1993). Nel 1997 ha vinto il premio “Méditerranée” per il romanzo Daullja prej letre (Tamburo di carta).
